You might know the talented and multifaceted Yara Shahidi from her impressive and hilarious work playing Zoey on ABC's Black-ish. But did you know she's also a badass director?
Well, now you do: presenting we are girls, a video directed by Yara about the complex and much-maligned nature of girlhood. "What does it mean to be a girl?" asks Yara at the top of the video, prompting answers from a diverse cast of girls, all with unique outlooks of their own. The answers these girls give to Yara's questions are all different, but they share a common theme: that your girlhood can be anything you want it to be.
As Michelle Obama says: "I've had to learn that my voice has value. And if I don't use it, what's the point of being in the room?" Thank you to Yara and all the girls in this video for using your voices. Use yours to shape our future.
