Have you ever had the feeling that navigating gender kind of feels like wearing a costume? If so, this week's comic is tailor-made for you. Whether you feel like femininity is a farce or masculinity is a menace (or both), Karla nails the feeling of trying to inhabit a gender that doesn't quite fit—whether that's because you're trying to fold you into society's expectations for you or because you still haven't quite managed to find a way of expressing yourself that feels natural. (Trial and error can only go so far, after all.)

Besides, what even is gender, anyway? As far as we're concerned, the only thing that matters is that you feel comfortable in your own skin—whether you're a girl or a boy or both or neither.

Karla Monterrosa is an illustrator and animator from San Salvador, El Salvador. Her feminist art balances a whimsical style with subversive themes and content. Her work has been featured on Huffington Post and Gem Magazine, and she has worked on projects for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and the Hollywood Pantages Theater—not to mention rad websites and magazines like ours! Karla's comic for Adolescent.net gets published once a month.
