What does it mean to be "normal"? No, seriously: we're asking. Whatever it is, Karla has some ideas about whether or not it applies to her—after all, there's probably nothing "normal" about washing your hands ten times—but she doesn't seem to be as concerned with the question of "normal" as she is with the question of "okay". After all, as long as your normal doesn't get in the way of your okay, who cares? The thing that matters the most is being able to feel like you belong in your body.

Karla Monterrosa is an illustrator and animator from San Salvador, El Salvador. Her feminist art balances a whimsical style with subversive themes and content. Her work has been featured on Huffington Post and Gem Magazine, and she has worked on projects for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and the Hollywood Pantages Theater—not to mention rad websites and magazines like ours! Karla's comic for Adolescent.net gets published once a month.
