September is truly the January of fashion—as summer fades, the crisp autumn breeze brings exciting outfit opportunities. Now that we are longer limited by sweltering heat, it’s finally time to break out your fall fashion favorites: sweaters, boots, and jeans galore!

While surveying your local shops and boutiques, keep your eyes peeled for the following five autumn trends which will be sure to keep you looking super chic while the autumn leaves are at their peak.

Berets

Forget your idea of the beret as an enduring symbol of ‘50s beatniks: 2017 is breathing new life into this chic chapeau. Talk about form meeting fashion—this trend will warm your head while keeping you cute as can be! For any of your all-black outfit days, consider donning the classic cap in a seasonal color. Grab a classic felt beret (like this one from Urban Outfitters) in a beige, green, black, red, or copper—or perhaps reach for a beret of black leather, as Rihanna did at Dior’s Paris Fashion Week FW17 show!

Open-Shoulder Sweaters

The sassy “cold shoulder” look is crazy popular this year. No matter where you shop, you’ve probably spotted this sleeve trend all over the place in dresses, blouses, and crop tops—and now, as fall approaches, cold-shoulder sweaters are popping up everywhere. When shopping for your autumn knits, be sure to try on a few with sexy shoulder cut-outs. We’re pretty excited about this soft-knit AEO Cold Shoulder Zipper Sweater, which is available in three colors and in sizes XXS through XXL; try pairing it with a pair of fitted jeans or leggings for a comfy fall look.

Overalls

Are you over overalls? Good! Me neither—and as pumpkin-patch season settles in, they’re really going to come in handy. This fall is the perfect time to make a bold statement in a pair of chic overalls or an overall dress, like this one from Forever 21. The playful feel of overalls can completely transform any shirt or sweater you wear under it, giving your entire wardrobe twice the wear. Try substituting your go-to jeans for a pair of denim overalls for a more rustic vibe.

Tartan Prints

Your oversized flannel shirts have been waiting all year long for autumn. We’re talking prime plaid season here, people! However, tartan prints are not just “cozy”: they can also be couture. Don’t believe me? Just take a gander at the Cooperative Glenn Plaid Apron Ruffle Jumpsuit from Urban Outfitters. Available in sizes XS through XL, the jumpsuit is tailored at the waist to flatter all body types. Plus, with its crew neck and open sides, it would serve as the perfect partner to your fave turtleneck or long-sleeved top!

Fall Florals

We loved florals so much last season that we aren’t ready to say goodbye… but we are ready to make a few tweaks to keep the look in tune with this season’s falling foliage. Trade in your summery blues, pinks, and purples for florals in deep burgundy, rust, and mustard. For extra credit, step into autumn with shoes that take the trend to the streets (literally)—such as these Embroidered Ankle Boots from Forever 21, available in sizes 5.5 to 8.5. Swoon! Can’t you imagine yourself pumpkin-picking in these?
