The American Music Awards are a welcoming invitation to be extra. Bring on the poses, the angles, the gowns, the smokey eye, the bold jewelry, and the confident attitude, because their attendance is not only welcomed, but encouraged. Besides watching my favorites slay the stage and perform their hit singles (and give me another reason to love them), the red carpet looks are definitely something I look forward to every year. This year’s red carpet brought out some fan favorites: Taylor Swift, Camila Cabello, Dua Lipa, Cardi B, and Shawn Mendes, just to name a few. Every look made me wish I was famous so that I could be worthy of wearing at least one of them. But alas, I was not one of the chosen ones, so all that’s left to do is admire from afar and stan my favorites. And since stanning is what I do best, here’s a round-up of some of my favorites who walked the red carpet!

  1. Taylor Swift

Taylor’s past AMA looks have been a little more on the safe side: classy, sophisticated, and chic. But when you’re returning to the stage after such a long departure, you really want to make a lasting impression, and well, she did just THAT. Wearing a mirrored, metallic Balmain dress with matching thigh-high boots, she slayed everyone. Look what we made her do…

2. Tracee Ellis Ross

Hosting for the second time in a row, Tracee really brought her fashion game. Besides her many on-stage outfit changes, her red carpet look was a feminine take on menswear. The blush color and the subtle black along the collar and the sides of her pants complemented each other so well. The fit was oversized, but it never overpowered her. Let’s also not forget her slicked-back hair, long silver earrings, and dazzling choker!

3.  Vanessa Hudgens

Everything Vanessa wears is a match made in heaven. She wears a blush gown with a plunging neckline reminding us that a simple and elegant look is sometimes more.

4. Amber Heard

This stunning actress combined the gold and metallic trends in one gown. With an accentuated waist, heart-shaped neckline, and high slit, she looked chic and elegant.

5.  Cardi B

Cardi B is the definition of extra and I love it! Wearing a beautiful floral Dolce & Gabbana gown with a matching headpiece, she flaunted a confident attitude and made us do a double take.

6.  Dua Lipa

Dua brought Hollywood glam to the party! Rocking a white, off-the-shoulder mermaid gown, she reminds us that this is what dreams are made of.

7.  Hailey & Chloe Bailey

It is important to state that this is a hard look to pull off because this type of silhouette can easily be interpreted as a curtain or a Halloween ghost costume—just poke two holes, and ta-da! Sorry, I had to say it. But these two talented girls pulled it with colors that complemented each of them so well! Bless them.

8.  Khalid

Dear Khalid, thank you for wearing this look! I love a co-ord, and he rocks it so well. The monochrome pink is a yes for me, and the chunky sneakers are also a yes for me! I love that he paired it with a white turtleneck and a simple chain as an added accessory. Also, I think this millennial pink trend doesn’t want to give up, and wants to stay a while longer?

9. Rami Malek

Um, has no one else noticed that Rami has some serious fashion game?! Everything I’ve seen him wear so far is stellar! Here he wears a black and white Givenchy ensemble: checkered blazer with a white poplin button down, black pants, and patent, pointed shoes.

10. Leighton Meester

Rocking another black and white ensemble, Leighton wears a custom Sonya Rykiel beaded gown with a crisscross halter neckline. Elegance at its finest. I think Blair Waldorf would be proud.
