Happy Friday, and welcome to another Take Five! Here are the top five things you need to know to stay informed:

  1. Trump Calls 3rd World Countries “Shitholes”

The President of the United States referred to African nations as “shitholes” on Friday during a private meeting with lawmakers on immigration. During the meeting Trump was rumored to have said, “Why do we need more Haitians… take them out,” and while Trump denied this via Twitter, many news accounts affirmed that he did. Additionally, the White House has not denied his racist rhetoric. Senator Durbin and Speaker Paul D. Ryan both publicly stated their horror at the President’s vile words.

  1. Taylor Swift Drops End Game Music Video

Let’s be honest, this wouldn’t be a complete Take Five if I didn't bring up the one and only Taylor Swift! The singer has just dropped maybe her best music video to date for "End Game", the latest single off her new album, Reputation. The video features her getting drunk with pals Ed Sheeran and Future, who are both featured on the single. Some of the places she visits during the music video—including a New Year’s Eve house party and a kebab shop—are places she was rumored to have gone to with her boyfriend of over one year, Joe Alwyn. The video was directed by Joseph Khan, who has also directed many of Swift’s recent videos, including "Blank Space", "Look What You Made Me Do", "Wildest Dreams", and many others.

  1. The Golden Globes Turn Political

This year's Golden Globes were filled with snubs and success stories, but one aspect that dominantly stood out was the wave of stars who wore black in support of the Time’s Up movement. Many of the speeches were also political and spoke out against sexual assault and harassment. Oprah’s speech specifically stood out, and many are even calling for Oprah to run for President in 2020. Golden Globes host Seth Meyers said in his opening monologue, “There’s a new era underway, and I can tell because it’s been years since a white man was this nervous in Hollywood.” Side note: Get Out was one of the many films that were completely snubbed at the awards ceremony.

  1. James Franco Denies Sexual Harassment Allegations

Speaking of the Golden Globes, James Franco who attended and wore a Time’s Up pin, has been accused of sexual harassment by five different women—including Adolescent creator Violet Paley. Franco denied the allegations on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert: “Look, in my life I pride myself on taking responsibility for things that I have done... I have to do that to maintain my well being. The things that I heard that were on Twitter are not accurate. But I completely support people coming out and being able to have a voice because they didn’t have a voice for so long. So I don’t want to shut them down in any way.” Except by calling them liars on late-night TV, right, James? We expect that more information will soon unfold about Franco’s past.

  1. California’s Bad Weather Streak Brings on Mudslides

It has not been a great few months for California’s climate. First, the wildfires spread rapidly through Southern California, burning hundreds of houses and evacuation thousands of people. Just weeks following that, California experienced a few days of heavy rain, which led to mudslides that have left 17 people dead and 40 missing. About 100 homes were totally destroyed and 300 were extremely damaged. (Yet Trump still refuses to believe in climate change!)
